El Jadida is officially in horse mode.
The 17th Salon du Cheval has opened and will run until October 18, bringing together riders, breeders, performers and horse lovers from Morocco and abroad.
And if your first thought is “okay, horses,” the event is actually much bigger than that.
The Salon mixes traditional Moroccan equestrian culture with international competitions, exhibitions, demonstrations and live performances.
The biggest visual moment, of course, is tbourida.
Teams of riders charge together at full speed before firing their rifles in near-perfect sync, turning the whole thing into one of the most dramatic live traditions in Morocco.
It is loud. It is precise.
And on camera, it looks unreal.
That is also why the Salon du Cheval works so well beyond hardcore equestrian audiences.
You do not need to know anything about horse breeding or riding technique to understand why hundreds of horses, traditional outfits and synchronized performances look incredible.
The event also gives space to breeders, craftspeople and professionals working around Morocco’s equestrian heritage, so it is not only about spectacle.
It is also about an industry and tradition that still has a huge cultural presence.
For younger audiences, that can sometimes feel distant until you actually see it live.
Then it makes a lot more sense.
The Salon runs for an entire week in El Jadida, making it one of the biggest equestrian events on Morocco’s calendar.
And if you are there for one thing?
Catch the tbourida. You will hear it before you see it.
