Some people celebrate their birthday with dinner and a cake.
Drake celebrated turning 40 by giving guests luxury handbags, handing out enormous cash prizes and bringing the Backstreet Boys onstage.
Yes, the Backstreet Boys.
The rapper kicked off his birthday celebrations on October 23 at Casa Cipriani in New York, ahead of his birthday the following day.
According to People and Vogue, approximately 400 guests attended the event.
And the party favors were definitely not ordinary.
Some guests reportedly received luxury handbags from Chanel and Hermès, including Birkin and Kelly bags.
But that wasn’t even the biggest giveaway.
Imagine going to a birthday party and leaving with $1 Million.
The evening reportedly featured game-show-style prize giveaways, including cash amounts ranging from $10,000 to a grand prize of $1 million.
And then there was the music.
The Backstreet Boys performed their 1999 hit I Want It That Way, with Drake joining them onstage.
An unexpected musical combination, although the rapper has previously performed with the group during a Toronto concert in 2022.
The fashion was equally dramatic.
Drake wore a sparkling black tuxedo with wide-leg trousers and a diamond-covered Rolex Daytona reportedly worth millions.
He followed the first celebration with another party on Saturday, switching into a cheetah-print Chrome Hearts jacket and bright red leather trousers.
Jamaican artist Popcaan also joined the entertainment.
The celebrations came during another major period in Drake’s career, with new RIAA certifications adding to his commercial achievements.
But for once, the music statistics weren’t the biggest talking point.
It was the birthday itself.
Luxury handbags, a seven-figure prize and a surprise performance from one of the most recognizable boy bands of the 1990s.
Turning 40 apparently wasn’t enough for Drake. He had to make sure everyone else remembered it too.
